Tanya Heaslip
Tanya Heaslip LLB GDLP MAICD Author & Lawyer

Tanya Heaslip was raised on an isolated cattle station in Central Australia. A love of stories took her on a journey through law and leadership, international travel, and finally publication of her memoir, ‘Alice to Prague’.

With over thirty years as legal practitioner, land access consultant and in-house counsel, Tanya also writes professionally, weaving stories about the places and people who have inspired her journey.

She delights in sharing these stories with others and is currently writing her second memoir about the lessons she learnt growing up in the ancient, red, dreamtime land of the outback.

Copies of ‘Alice to Prague’ will be available to purchase at the session.

WHY STORYTELLING MATTERS
FOR BUILDING YOUR RESILIENCE

Resilience is key to surviving in today’s often frenetic world. And it comes from many places.

For Tanya, it began in the remote Australian outback of the 1960s and 70s; being educated through isolated Correspondence School and School of the Air; being a woman (and a small one at that!) in a very male legal world; travelling to foreign places; leading a legal team and teaching herself to write, pitch and win a book deal to fulfil her childhood dream.

So, how can our own life stories and those of people like Tanya help build our resilience? And how can we develop our skills in the art of telling stories?

In this session Tanya takes us through her own life lessons. In particular, Tanya will reveal how:

  • the stories of others can create a vision bigger than yourself, offering inspiration and courage during hard times
  • understanding the stories of your audience can help you deliver impactful messages, and win that court case, corporate pitch, or boardroom debate
  • resilience and a compelling story is the key to success - whether you are pitching to the judge, the jury, the Czech High Court, or the publisher!
