Hon. John McKechnie, QC
John is a second generation West Australian, educated at Dalkeith Primary School, Scotch College and the University of Western Australia, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws in 1972 and was admitted to practice law in 1974.

After a brief stint in private practice, John joined the State (then Crown) solicitor’s office in 1976 and held the roles of Crown Counsel 1988; Queen’s Counsel 1989, Director Public Prosecutions 1992 - 1999; Supreme Court Justice 1999 -2015; Corruption and Crime Commissioner 2015 -2020.

John has been a Course Coordinator and lecturer in trial advocacy Murdoch University since 2006; Lecturer in Criminal Law UWA 1985-6; and is joint author Criminal Law in Queensland and Western Australia (multiple editions). He is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Law.

John is a Board member and Chair of a number of charities and NFP organisations. 

He is married, with 5 children, would identify as a sailing tragic and is a National Race Officer.
