What to expect

Work Health and Safety legislation evolves over time, and HSRs need current knowledge to represent their work groups effectively. This refresher course revisits the intent and requirements of the WHS Act and highlights what has changed since participants completed their initial training. It supports you to understand how the legislation translates into practical responsibilities within your organisation.

You will review the policies and procedures that must, should and could be in place to meet WHS expectations and explore how these relate to the work of the Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking. The program also reinforces the behaviours, communication skills and decision-making approaches that help HSRs carry out their duties with clarity and confidence.

Using examples from a range of industries, you will see how organisations implement WHS practices in different contexts and consider how these insights apply to your own workplace. This helps strengthen your ability to identify risks, influence safer practices and support meaningful consultation.

This course is ideal for individuals who have been elected as Health and Safety Representatives and have previously completed the full five-day Health and Safety Representatives Training Course.

This course is suited to individuals who want to:

  • refresh and build on their existing HSR knowledge and skills

  • apply WHS responsibilities more effectively in the workplace

  • support continuous improvement in workplace health and safety

Pre-requisite:
Participants must have completed the five-day Health and Safety Representatives Training Course before commencing this course.

What you will explore

During this training course, you will refresh and extend your understanding of the Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislative framework and its practical application in the workplace. The course focuses on the intent of the WHS Act, the responsibilities of Health and Safety Representatives (HSRs), and how WHS systems, policies and processes operate across different organisational contexts.

By the end of this training course, you should be able to:

  • Refresh your knowledge of the existing and new provisions of the WHS Act

  • Understand the intent of the WHS Act and how it translates into workplace practice

  • Review required and recommended policies and procedures

  • Implement your roles and responsibilities as a Health and Safety Representative

  • Represent members in the WHS risk management process undertaken by the PCBU

  • Explore examples of WHS implementation across different organisations
