Michael Smith Hon DLitt (UWA) FAICD, Principal Black House

Michael has a long history in the development of effective strategies, managing performance and identifying critical success factors for outstanding executive team function.

He has provided extensive strategic support in the building of elite-level executive teams to numerous organisations including Rio Tinto, St John of God Health Care, the West Australian Football Commission and the Western Australian Cricket Association.

Michael’s passion for leading governance in the boardroom is exemplary and his contributions at the board level are considerable. He is the current Chair of 7-Eleven Stores PL and Starbucks Australia and is the Patron of the Co3 Dance Company.

His past roles include Chair of Pioneer Credit, iiNet, Synergy, Verve, the Perth International Arts Festival and the West Coast Eagles.

In 2014, Michael was awarded a Doctor of Letters from the University of Western Australia for his contribution to the business sector and the arts. In addition to this award, Michael is the recipient of the Patron’s Medal – His Royal Highness Prince Phillip, in recognition of his services to marketing by the Australian Marketing Institute.
