Overview

The MBA Elevate Program is an annual update of MBA theories, the latest academic research and approaches to enhance graduates' decision-making skills. You will engage with a range of specialist MBA academics and industry guest speakers to cultivate thought leadership sessions, build your professional network and sharpen your abilities.

Over two days you will cover critical topics including Strategic Change Leadership, Strategy, Finance and Artificial Intelligence. Guided by university-level academics and distinguished industry speakers, this program will expose you to the latest theories and concepts in the subjects that you completed within your MBA and challenge your thinking in new areas.

Joanne Abbiss      Mark Dutton

Joanne Abbiss, Chief Executive Officer, City of Armadale and Mark Dutton, Director, Banksia Capital.*

Joanne Abbiss is a 2015 Telstra WA Business Women’s Government and Academia Award Winner. For over a decade, she has been the Chief Executive Officer of some of Australia's fastest growing local governments and has helped build new communities and stimulate major economic growth. 

As the CEO of the City of Armadale, Joanne is responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the local government and directly oversees key areas such as City Projects, Economic Development and Tourism, Human Resources, Marketing and Communications and the Mayor's Office.

Mark Dutton is a Director of Banksia Capital and has over 25 years of business experience with the majority spent in private equity. Prior to founding Banksia Capital, he was a partner at Navis Capital and Director at Foundation Capital, with responsibility for their later stage fund.

In previous roles, Mark worked at BancBoston Capital in Europe and in the Asia Pacific as Managing Director. He also worked in the Audit and Corporate Finance divisions at Price Waterhouse in both the UK and Russia.

About the Facilitators

Dee Roche
Dee is a Senior Management Consultant who has been facilitating, public speaking, teaching and working with groups for over 25 years within private, public and community based organisations. Her experience spans the areas of strategic leadership and management development, organisational change and transformation, governance and building high performance teams that focus on values.

Dee currently lectures at the UWA Business School on the MBA Program, focusing on ‘Strategic Change and Transformation’ and is the 2013 and 2022 Winner and 2014, 2015 & 2016 Nominee of the UWA Excellence in Teaching Award; 2014 Winner UWA Excellence in Teaching and Research Awards (Program Award); and 2014 Nominee for the Western Australian Women’s Hall of Fame.

Professor Allan Trench
Allan is a former strategy consultant with McKinsey & Company, the author of 10 books and over 50 peer-reviewed journal publications.

He has over 25 years of combined industry and academic experience and has served as a director of a number of emerging ASX-listed resources companies since 2003. Allan has held academic positions in geophysics at Oxford University and Mineral Economics at Curtin University and is currently an MBA Director and Professor in the Practice of Management at UWA Business School.

Dr Shane Lavagna-Slater
Shane is a financial services professional across several countries. His career is a blend of academia and financial services experience, having worked in large banks, financial services providers and Universities across Africa and Australia.

Within financial services, Shane has held senior positions responsible for driving growth through new product and channel development. Similarly, in the academic realm, he has taken on roles ranging from educator and department head to learning experience manager. Currently, Shane acts as a sessional academic and facilitator within The University of Western Australia MBA program teaching Strategic Corporate Finance.

Dr Alan D. Thompson
Alan is a world expert in artificial intelligence (AI), specialising in the augmentation of human intelligence and advancing the evolution of ‘integrated AI’. He provides AI consulting and advisory to intergovernmental organisations including member states of the United Nations, European Union and the Commonwealth.

Alan’s AI research is globally recognised, with citations in reports by the University of Oxford and the US Government. His 2021-2022 experiments with Leta AI and Aurora AI have been viewed over 3.5 million times.
